Instructor Bio & Teaching Philosophy

Andy Miles’ study of martial arts began as a kid. From his first lesson at age 5 to winning local karate tournaments, the training inspired a warrior spirit and lead to an interest of philosophy, poetry, and medicine. Practice increased in intensity during his high school years, training up to 5 hours a day. With Shifu Loftus' encouragement, he began testing it against martial artists from various systems to find weaknesses he could later refine. This gave him exposure to striking and grappling system from around the world from the most brutish to the most refined. This lent a deeper understanding of the internal principles and a practical understanding of Chinese philosophy. This realization would change the course of his life. After becoming an instructor he began teaching, writing articles and leading seminars in the martial and medical arts. He has taught hundreds of students throughout the US, Canada, Europe and currently in China.

Shifu Miles is a doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). His treatment protocols often include Qi Gong and kung fu techniques as a path to long term health and longevity. He works in Chinese medicine research and development and is devoted to bringing these ancient arts into the modern age. He continues to learn, practice and pass on the tradition in Cheng Du to the next generation of warriors.

Shifu Miles' Approach to Education:

Your success comes faster with:

Integrated phsiology: Understanding your physical/emotional and hormonal physiology allows us to intelligently strengthen you from the inside out. Even people with chronic injuries have gently recovered and gone through our programs.

Integrated teaching methods: We use time tested methods with modern teaching methods to provide better instruction and faster results. Classes are fresh, fun and exciting providing an intelligent and safe progression. Instructors continue training in the system constantly improving their skills in martial and medical arts and through ongoing instructor training ensuring the best education and delivery methods available.

Attention to detail: Misplaced alignment can lead to injuries and pain. This is the inevitable result of having too many students simply mimic a teacher in front of them. This approach allows for many students and often cheaper instruction; however the long term effects are movements which are useless for combat and harmful to the body. We pay attention to make sure that you don’t waste time doing something the wrong way. We maintain a high instructor to student ratio to ensure that you have the attention to detail you deserve.
